Polls / Automated events
« on: October 11, 2018, 01:48:22 pm »
We're planning to release an automated event system soon thanks to some new game integrations we've been able to build and I'd like to know what sort of events you want most.

Most likely, events like PvP events would run several times per day at different preset times to accommodate those in different timezones. There would be prizes awarded automatically based on results  and a ranking system to track your event performance, PvP performance, and general character info.

Feel free to add suggestions to this post.

You can now port back from Elysium without having to restart your client. Enjoy!

News / Patch v39 - Elysium Open
« on: September 06, 2018, 07:08:57 pm »
Another day and another patch already. This time, we're opening up Elysium! Update your clients to v36 and enjoy access to Elysium once again. Currently porting back from Elysium will cause your client to hang and then crash - we're working on this but if you log in after that everything is fine.

Note: If you were previously "stuck" in Elysium because your character was in Elysium when we took the server down for the Hydran update, you may have to log in twice to get your character working properly again.

News / Patching problems? Super slow verify?
« on: September 06, 2018, 07:07:34 pm »
We've identified two issues some of you have been having with the new patcher.

First, make sure your Monkey Dynasty - Regenesis folder is not read only. Right click it -> properties -> uncheck read only and apply to that folder and all sub- files and folders. Read only files and folders prevent the patcher from making the changes it is trying to make and will result in you missing out on the updates and seeing the same patches applied every time you start the launcher.

Second, if your patching / file verify is extremely slow, try disabling Windows Defender Real Time Protection. You can find this in the Windows Defender settings. During testing we've seen Windows Defender Real Time Protection slow the patching process as much as 200x.

If either of these issues helped you, let us know in the comments!

How did you install server?

Paste the contents of your element\userdata\server\serverlist.txt file

News / More Download Options
« on: September 03, 2018, 07:50:31 pm »
We've added more download options to the downloads page. If you've been having trouble getting the client, there is now a torrent as well as a Mega mirror for the installer. Mega has a sync client as well that should handle resuming and perform better with unreliable internet connections.

Have another preferred method? Let me know in the comments.

News / 2020: The Patch is Upon Us
« on: August 31, 2018, 08:20:51 pm »
So it's been a running joke that we're not going to get this patch out until 2020. But guess what, it's 2020 right now - patch time!

Download New Client
The update requires a brand new client and the fastest way to get it by far is to download the installer from the connect page. We will release a standalone patcher soon and have the current patcher update your existing clients, but due to the incremental patching approach our new patcher uses, updating an old client from scratch will take forever.

If you've been helping us test on the test server, the test server patcher will patch your test client to the live client (v32), so you're already ready to go.

State of the Patch
This patch has been an enormous effort but there are still a handful of things that need to be completed. Miscellaneous translations, changes to the game interfaces, re-adding some more customs, etc. If you notice any bugs, please report them immediately to avoid any rollbacks.

Elysium will be launched tomorrow, for now it will remain shut down.

Patch Notes
Stuff changed. A lot of stuff. Too much stuff to list right now.

Main stuff, Psychea and Kytos can ascend now. Lumen is now available-ish. Hydran now exists and can ascend. Clash of the Seven exists, might work? BFS might work, other stuff might work. Some stuff, might not work. Slack remains the best place to report issues.

This post will be updated with a more detailed list of changes as we write it up. At the moment, it's 5 AM and we haven't slept. So, working towards that now.

There will likely be many small patches in the near future to finish customizing the client and fix any remaining bugs or translations.

When reporting an issue, please remember to include the name of the npc, mob, quest, or whatever is involved with it. The more information the better.  Pretend you are describing any issues you find to someone who has never played the game before. That'll make it much easier for us to understand, find and repair the issue.

Bans and tickets
If you have an open ticket then it's likely going to be reviewed after the weekend. For now, download the new client and wait for our response. If you're banned, that sucks, don't violate rules and you won't get banned.

Custom Items
Some custom items have had their ID numbers changed. These fashions and skyblades have been mailed to you.  You might find you have a charm equipped as a fashion or something like that, just remove it. The ID numbers that we used to use for some items are now in use for some other items.

Skyblades might have lost their attributes, you'll have to rebuild them. This was the best solution we had for this time and I think most of you will agree that it's a small price to pay compared to other servers.

News / More Server Hardware Fixes
« on: April 05, 2018, 06:20:06 pm »
The server was taken down today for an extensive hardware analysis. We discovered an additional issue with the power supply and replaced it. Combined with the recent cooling fix, we should have a very stable server going forward (no more random crashes). This is an important foundation for the upcoming patch.

Thanks for your patience, and stay tuned  :)

News / Regional Connectivity Issues
« on: August 31, 2017, 04:15:56 pm »
Hi Guys,

As some of you are aware, there have been ongoing connectivity issues affecting certain regions preventing a good chunk of users from connecting to the server.  These are not related to the server specifically but rather a result of underlying routing issues with portions of the internet between users and our server. Hopefully it should be resolved soon. In the meantime, feel free to join us on slack to help test and preview the upcoming updated Hydran server in #testing on slack.

General Discussion / Re: thrown to the wayside
« on: June 22, 2017, 02:39:27 pm »
I hear your frustration. The lack of patches is a combinations of things, but largely it is out of our control. Yes, we have normal jobs and life to attend to, but we don't want this server dying any more than you do. The lack of updates is largely a result of a lack of new files, new tools, and new translations. We are handicapped by when and what new files are released. On top of that, we need to acquire or build tools to allow us to edit those new files (re-adding customs, etc). Finally, we need to build a new client that works with the new files and most importantly is in english. This all takes time, luck, and availability of files and tools. As JD has become less popular, it has been a lot more difficult to find all of these. Bear with us though, we are working right now on a core update and determining the best strategy to release it given what tooling and translations we have available.

My main point is that yes, it sucks, but it's not because we have the ability to deliver these updates and are choosing not to. We want them just as badly as you do, and we're working hard to make that happen.

General Discussion / Re: Future for Md
« on: May 19, 2017, 12:06:36 pm »
The thing that's more worrying is that there are less new players joining than players quitting. If this keeps going on the server will die regardless of how much new content, updates, etc. is released. I think it would be better if we gained more new players. Probably almost half of the characters on this server (and all other servers probably) are alts. We just need more new players and less alts, which will make the game more lively and active; increase PvP (which is one of the reasons why people play this game); items are in higher demand; and in return the owner of MD will then get more donations due to increased competition, etc, etc...

So, for now, I believe it is best if the management of MD decide to increase their efforts in gaining new players, instead of attempting to pour out half-assed content as a short term solution to this problem .

I truly wish people would stop urging the staff to release content as a short term solution, and instead would ask the staff to, for example, increase advertising or what not and allow the game to have an increased chance of attracting players. Nowadays, there are millions of MMORPG's to choose from, and without any form of advertising, most of the potential new players may not find MD and may choose to commit to other games.

I sincerely hope the staff will read this comment and take this into consideration.

I hear you, but I think Jade Dynasty in general has a dwindling playerbase. Most new players to date have not been random gamers looking for a new MMORPG but rather players already familiar with JD / PW from playing official or other pservers. I think JD is a pretty niche game with a steep learning curve that's not that conducive to a random new player looking for a new game. I could be wrong, but this is the feeling I've gotten.

We've experimented with google ads but have had no positive results from them. I think the only potentially viable form of advertising we have not yet tried is buying ad slots on gaming sites / pserver toplist sites in sections other than the JD section.

One other idea I've considered is a refer a friend system to incentivize players to advertise to their friends and other gamers. This is tricky to implement in a way that cannot be scammed / exploited, so that's why we haven't done this yet. Given how little money the server makes right now it's pretty hard to justify spending time on features like this without seeing some initial resurgence first.

Finally, I think the big wait on critical fixes and new content has led a lot of existing players to play other games while they wait for us to get the next update. That decrease in players makes the server less appealing for new players as well and it all snowballs. I do think that new content will help revitalize the community and that will be a good time to try some new advertising approaches.

If you have any suggestions for advertising techniques I'd love to hear them. It's not an area that I have had a lot of success with in the past and not one I have much experience in.

The last thought I'll leave you with is this: We still care and we still want this game to succeed. There are a lot of factors that are out of our control when it comes to new content and fixes and we're just as frustrated as you are with the stagnant community and influx of new players. We're open to any ideas you all have that may help.

News / 4 Years of Monkey Dynasty
« on: February 19, 2017, 07:05:24 pm »
It's hard to believe it's been 4 years since we started this project. We've come a long way since then, seen hundreds of thousands of players, a tight knit group of dedicated staff, and an ever evolving community of JD fans. I'd like to thank the players and the staff who've made all of this possible. We couldn't have done it without you all! Here's to another year of fun with all you monkeys.

I'd also like to say that our new prioritizations have been going well and we are finally getting more time for higher priority work. We're excited to see some results from this in the coming weeks and months. Stay tuned!

And as always, Kaz still has some fun events in store for you. We'll see you all in game!
