Run Monkey Dynasty on Linux
« on: October 13, 2013, 06:08:56 am »
Good morning,

This tutorial will show you how to run Jade Dynasty client on Linux OS,before you start, make sure that your hardware meets the following requirements:
RAM: 2G
GFX: shared (have at least 128 MB dedicated).

In my case, I'm using:

-Linux Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit OS
-Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset
-4G DDR3 Memory

*The game client worked also on Linux mint 15 64bit, However it couldn't work on 32 bit Ubuntu 12.04

Drivers and Distribution:

for both AMD and Nvidia chipsets, You can easily get the driver for linux.
For Intel chipsets, Visit the following website:  https://01.org/linuxgraphics/
If you own a laptop/pc with Core i7/5/3 processor, your on-board gfx is supported, However Intel GMA  and Atom CPU/GPU are not supported yet.
I highly recommend to Install Ubuntu 13.04 64bit or Linux mint 15, since they both got latest drivers.

Installing WineHq:

To run windows games/apps on Linux or Mac, You need to install Wine.Version 1.4.1 is not the latest version, but it is a stable one and support JD client.
Press Ctrl+Alt+T to open Terminal, then copy and paste the following code:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install ia-32-libs
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine 1.4

then Run the game and see if it is working, It should work now.

You may also add the following overrides to wine cfg using wine tricks:

d3dx10, d3dx11_42, d3dx11_43, d3dx9, d3dx9_26, d3dx9_28, d3dx9_31, d3dx9_35, d3dx9_36, d3dx9_39, d3dx9_42, d3dx9_43,
d3dxof, devenum, directx9, dotnet20, dotnet30, dotnet30sp1, dxdiag, dxdiagn, gdipluse, ie8, l3codecx, mfc42,
msls31, msvcirt, msxml3, msxml4, msxml6, pngfilt, quartz, vb2run, vb3run, vb4run, vb5run, vb6run, vcrun2003,
vcrun2005, vcrun2008, vcrun2010, vcrun6, vcrun6sp6, windowscodecs, winhttp, wininet, wsh56vb, xmllite.

After doing all the steps above, you're done.

Testing:

MD patcher  .... Ok.
MonkeyDynasty.exe ....Ok.
*The client performance is smooth and lag free, I didn't get any crashes. However there is one bug that is killing me now.

Bug
s:

most skills/Items icons are not shown,
I'm sure it's caused by a missing DLL, If you encounter same issue please let me know.

Overall rating: 80%. I would give it 95%+ if I could solve the icons issue.
Here is a video showing you the game performance:

Feel free to contact me if you encounter any bug or need any help.

Very cool - good work! Stickied to track progress and make it more available to anyone else with interest in Linux as a desktop operating system.

::) Looks like the missing icons issue is related to my Wine version which is 1.4.1.
I'm waiting for the next version 1.8 which is supposed to solve this issue.
Just a small note: The game is incompatible with wine v1.5 & v1.6.

There's also new Ubuntu version if you haven't updated yet; 13.10.
The hell you want?

I don't have that bug and I will tell you what to do.

1) Use playonlinux for managing games. It will let you run game under a different version of wine rather then one you have in system.
2) Install game (or add) in playonlinux, and set wine version 1.1.43 for JD.
3) Create two launchers in playonlinux: one for monkeydynasty.exe and use it for regular play, and other for MonkeyDynastyLauncher.exe you will use it only for updates.

To play - simply double click icon for monkeydynasty.exe in playonlinux and enjoy.

To update - in playonlinux right click on MonkeyDynastyLauncher.exe icon and select "Open the application's directory". New window of file manager will be opened, simply double click on MonkeyDynastyLauncher.exe file in that new windows, and updater will be run under system wide wine.

Explanation: 1.1.43 was (at least for me) last version of wine where everything were perfect with graphics, so we use this version for playing game, but JD won't update properly under 1.1.43, so we use current version of wine for update only.

Good luck and have fun.

PS please note 1.1.43, not 1.4.3, not 1.43 or something.

Update 23/Jan/2014

ZX3 has been tested on Wine 1.7.11
OS: Linux Mint Petra 16
It worked fine, without any bug.
Game play is smooth.

The new graphics engine solved all the issues we have encountered previously.

Confirm correct work with 1.7.14

As for prerequisites  in wine for JD you need only install ie6, no need to install the whole list green coloured in one of prev. messages.
