The Utter and Complete Pet Guide
« on: August 26, 2013, 12:43:27 pm »
I've been receiving a lot of questions in game about the training of pets, effect of mood on pet, etc.
This guide was made over 3 years ago, I've updated the things I stumbled upon that have changed.
If you notice any further discrepancies, feel free to add them in reply :)

Word of warning: it's a long and very elaborate guide, pack your lunch :)

1. Basic Introduction (has "duhhh" factor)

What are pets?
The pet is your in game buddy. They are funny little creatures that babble too much and help you kill anything on your path.

What are Pets used for?

Pets serve many purposes they can do any of the following:
1. Help kill mobs.
2. Tank mobs.
3. Can give you added stats by Fusing or Esperating.
4. Can farm "needed" materials for making pet gear.

Can Pets Die?
Yes. Your pet dies when its age is full, while giving you an addition reward. You can view your pets life by pressing "p" and hovering over the pets picture.
The pets age grows by one every five minutes, even if he is resting.
You can reduce or expand the pets age by buying items for it at Pet Master Allen in Sunstream.

NOTE: Age and health points are different, when its health points go to zero you can still summon him and heal him, when its age points are full it dies. In order to resurrect your pet you will have to buy Surge Potion (reduces 2000 points off your pets age) at Pet Master Allen in the Pet Shop.

How to Feed the Monster
Your pet will get hungry from time to time. You can see how hungry, or not hungry it is by hovering over that green bubble on the far right of the pets UI while summoned.
You can feed your pet by buying items from Pet Tamer Totto. The grape battery is the safest route to take, just mount it in the "Rem" box of your Pet's skill bar. Your pet will no auto heal and feed.

NOTE: When your pet gets too hungry it will do less damage. When your pet has a full tummy it will do extra damage.

Pet Leveling Tips
There are aids in game that can help your pet level up faster, When your pet is at level 1 a Kyrin Orb will instantly level it up to level 45.

Another option are the Mirage Candy exp orbs that you can craft, the higher the level of the Candy, the higher the exp your pet will receive.

Other than your main pet, if you want to be able and use the Mirage Candy crafting, I would advice getting a few additional pets. Bring them to at least level 30 so they can farm. With the items they farm you can craft the Mirage Candy.

The quests and and Mirage Spirit (required for crafting Mirage Candy) can be obtained from Pet Tamer Totto in Sunstream. He will also provide you with the recipes needed to craft the Mirage Candy.
Once a day you can collect 10x Mirrage Spirit from Pet Tamer Totto.

Pet Moods
Pet moods actually have no foundation or basis to do with your pet and all its glory, it is just one of those fun things that was put in to make your pet more like family than just cannon fodder. The only thing it does effect is what your pet might say, possible lines per pet can be found at http://jd-wiki.perfectworld.com/index.php/Pet_Sayings.
Bold - Not hesitating or fearful in the face of actual or possible danger or rebuff; courageous and daring.
Brave
Deception
Elegant
Erudite - Characterized by great knowledge; learned or scholarly.
Evil - Morally wrong or bad; immoral; wicked: evil deeds; an evil life, harmful; injurious.
Exotic - Of foreign origin or character; not native; introduced from abroad, but not fully naturalized or acclimatized.
Gentle
Irritable - Easily irritated or annoyed; readily excited to impatience or anger.
Isolated - Separated from other persons or things; alone; solitary.
Naughty
Nervous - Highly excitable; unnaturally or acutely uneasy or apprehensive.
Proud - Showing a high opinion of one's own dignity, importance, or superiority.
Romantic
Sacred - Devoted or dedicated to a deity or to some religious purpose; consecrated.
Shy
Solemn - Grave, sober, or mirthless: makes solemn remarks.
Wicked - Evil or morally bad in principle or practice; sinful; iniquitous, mischievous or playfully malicious.
Wild
Wise - Characterized by great knowledge; learned or scholarly.

Note: there is no separate item to change the mood of a pet; the mood can only be changed through changing the star of the pet through Menggu Relics that are obtainable in the Marketplace; the mood of the pet is set randomly and is not tied to any particular star.

Pet Affection

The amount of affection points your pet has is crucial to the amount of damage your pet does. A pet with approximately 5000 affection will give 3% critical and 30% critical damage; this will add up to quite a bit if you max your leveled and evolved pet's 50k affection. Retaming a pet will half the max affection.

3. Farming

How Do We Make Pets Farm?

Once Your pet hits level 30 it gains the capability to "farm" provisions for itself.

These "farming" actions include:
1. Gardening
2. Woodwork
3. Hunting
4. Fishing
5. Mining
6. Treasure

To make your pet farm press "p", at the top right you will see a button that says " Combat/Rest ", click it. Now you will see a status window, showing what actions you can select from their current Aptitude (skill points).
Click on the action you wish your pet to collect provisions for and then click on " Save and Exit ". Your pet will now go off for a while and attempt to collect provisions (this will not always succeed, you will receive a "common" notification in chat that shows whether the farming was successful and which item(s) the pet has retrieved) .These provisions can also be used for crafting pet gear, more on that later. While farming your pet will frequently retrieve recipes for pet gear.

NOTE: Keep in mind a pet can only farm those provisions it has aptitude points for.

Every time the pet brings back an item it consumes 100 belly per item.
The pet will try to bring back an item every 15 min of farming, it does not always farm an item.
Each level range has a grade of provisions your pet can farm.

Pet Level vs provisions Grade:
30~70 / Grade 1
71~100 / Grade 2
101~120 / Grade 3
121~135 / Grade 4
135~145 / Grade 5
146 ~150 / Grade 6

Pet Bag.

You can buy items from the Cash Shop (press "j") or from other players to increase the slots in your Provision bag. Expand the Provision bag at Pet Tamer Totto in Sunstream.
Increasing the slots in your pet bag will make it so that the provisions farmed will go to the pet bag and not into your own bag.

Two Sunray Brooch will add 6 slots to your pets bag slots.
One Sunray Brooch will add 1 slot to your pet slots ( amount of pets being equiped at any one time, default is two ), to increase the pet slots select "Expand Pet Roster" quest at Pet Master Totto.

Crafting Pet Gear.

To craft gear you will need pets with craft Class, a pet will obtain a craft Class when it reaches lvl 60. To set your pets craft class press ( p ) and then hit Novice/Brute/Trainee.

Every craft class will add to your crafting aptitude, the higher the aptitude, the better gear you can craft. The higher the craft class the more bonus aptitude you will get. To get higher craft classes you will need to upgrade your Pet Training Skill. This can be upgraded by lvling up your pets.

The crafting itself is done in the workshop, press "p", and hit Workshop.
To be able to craft make sure you have all the provisions for the gear you want in your bag. Some items can not be gotten with farming, you have to buy them from Pet Tamer Totto in sunstream.

Once you have all required items in your bag click the items you want to craft and set how many of them you want and then hit Start

Equipping Pet Gear.

Equipping pet gear can be a great help, since pet gear will boost the stats of your pet. To equip pet gear, press "p", and hit Pet Gear and drag the gear to the wright slot or just dubble click the gear.

Important to know with pet gear is that each pet can only have a set of 8 different peaces of gear.
Limbs, Face, Essence and Luck are the same for all pets.

Armor, Vest, Chi and Vigor depend on what star your pet has.
(warning: check to see if the gear you buy or craft is for your pet.)

Body, Faith, Blood and Mystery depend on what type your pet is.
(warning: check to see if the gear you buy or craft is for your pet.)

You can see what Type or Star you pet is/has by pressing ( p ), select your pet and look what it is saying behind Level: and behind Star:

4. Star Signs and Upgrading

What type of pet would you prefer?

The pet star sign determines the max growth of the pet's stats and what skills it can us. Based on whether you're looking at a pet for buffer or damage dealer you can determine which pet star you want.
A tank pet's most important stats are HP and AP, so it can keep agro for you (auris). If you want your pet to do mass dmg then you must choose a pet with a star sign that gives lots of ATK (magmas).

Upgrading your pet.

To upgrade your pet you will need to train your pet at Pet Master Ellan in sunstream.

A grade 12 pet has growth in the folowing stats (number 1 most important number 5 least) with a total of about 15.000 growth:

1. MIN / MAX ATK (attack)
2. ACC (accuracy)
3. DEF (Defense)

less important but useful:
4. HP (Health points)
5. The rest around 1100 growth

A grade 18 pet has growth in the following stats (1 being most important and 5 least) with a total of about 35.000 growth:

1. MIN / MAX ATK (attack)
2. ACC (accuracy)
3. DEF (Defense)

less important but useful:
4. HP (Health points)
5. EVA (Evasion)
6. The rest around 2200 growth average

Training your pet is done with jades, if you do not have any pet jades then you can use Celebeans.
(These can be obtained through either a Marketplace lotto or bought in Marketplace.)

Up until grade 8 you can also do the Free Lunch quest at Totto. Bring the pet that you obtain from that quest to level 30 and bring it back to Totto to be released. As a reward you will receive a Pet Jade. Of course bringing the pet to grade 8 in this manner takes quite long, but it is a free and available option.

When using celebeans keep the following in mind:
for HP, SP, Min ATK, Max ATK and DEF
grade 1 thru 12 use: Minor Jades
grade 12 thru 17 use: Noramal Jades
grade 17+ use:Improved Jades
for ACC, EVA, Stun RES, Weaken RES, Silence RES, Sleep RES and Paralyze RES
only use Improved Jades.

Here you will find a growth list so you know around how much total growth (all stats added together) your pet needs to get to a certain grade:
Grade 03: about 12150 total growth
Grade 04: about 12250 total growth
Grade 05:
Grade 06:
Grade 07:
Grade 08:
Grade 09:
Grade 10:
Grade 11:
Grade 12: about 15000 total growth
Grade 13: about 16000 total growth
Grade 14: about 18200 total growth
Grade 15: about 19900 total growth
Grade 16: about 22700 total growth
Grade 17: about 27100 total growth
Grade 18: about 35000 total growth
Grade 19:
Grade 20:

At grade 12 and 18 you can let your pet evolve. You can do this by buying the grade appropriate mushrooms at the Pet Shop and training your pet (evolve training can be found under "Pet Soul") with that item.
Blue mushroom for grade 12
colorfull mushroom for grade 18

After you have used one of these to evolve your pet you can opt to use a gem mushroom to change the color of pet.
Example:
Judge grade 12 pet evolved will have a blue skin and red clothing, after using the gem mushroom it will have a red skin and blue clothing.

Other important know hows.

- Pet trait. The trait of a pet makes it stronger in one of the stats, meaning that, that particular trait can have about 1000 more growth then normal.
For example: magmas min atk growth is normaly 5735, if the pet has the trait minimum attack it can be 6735 max.

The nice thing about this is that with the item called "Body Strengthen Potion" you can change the trait.
(One of the possible awards of the 50g Elysium quest obtained in Sunstream from the Skydweller, or you can obtain this item by exchanging 50 Sunny Jades in the training screen)

If you have upgraded the current trait above the normal max, the additional pints will not be removed when you change the trait.

- Pet speciality. Pet speciality makes the pet's skills stronger, meaning that the main-Speciality increases affecting skills by 30 lvls, Sub-speciality increases it by 10.

Each skill has an affectious speciality. Main-Speciality is the first one in the row of specialities. Affection can be chanced by an item called Special Potion. You can win this potion by doing the Celestial Trial quest obtained from npc Guardian Saith in Jadeon.

- Pet skills. A pet can have a max of 5 base skills.
Pet skill slots are fixed, so if you get the pet with 3 skills it will stay 3 skills for life.

But there is an item you can use "Snowland Ginseng" that you can win from Sky Dweller lotto's, or trade for 588 Sunny Jades and 5 Welkin Jades at the Jade Exchange Maiden in Sunstream. You can use this item together with a pet skill jade to add 1 more skill (can only be done once with every pet).
For example: the real max is 5 base skills + 1 added skill = 6 skills max.

- Leveling pet skills. To make lvl 91 pet skills. Without counting pet specialty effect, u need 30 normal skill jades (lotto's for jade can be bought at Totto for 50g) , and 60 star skill jades (comes from the 50g lottery item from Skydweller). So that's 90 lvls.

Pet specialty will save you some jades, but changing them will change the effected skill lvl.

For example, if your pet has a lvl 30 skill because of a specialty it holds, it is considered lvl 1 by skill jade. So ideally u only need 30 skill jade, and 30 star skill jade to make it 91, but changing the pet specialty will reduce it to lvl 61.

- Pet's Passive skill (not fighting spirit which comes from training pet with Dragonfang Herb (received from Nura's Gift quest)) can also be changed, using the Transmigration Flag from Pet Tamer Totto. This item will cost you 1 Eera Herb and 2 Red Mushroom.

It's not very useful since the stats are posted above, but here's a chart with all stats so it's easier to compare! You can alos check them out by opening pet rooster, click on stats button. Then click on the small ? icon next to your pet's star sign.

Again, maybe I'm the only airhead who didn't catch this at first, but for fellow pet fanatics that might have not noticed with the Speciality diagram in the pet stats.
These are all the corresponding specialities placed in the diagram. Just like the post above explained; the main speciality is the one that increases skills by 30 and sub-specialities increase respective skills by 10.
The "sun" (i assume it's a sun?) icon represents the main speciality and the moons are the sub-specialities.
Notice how the main speciality branches out to determine the sub specialties.
For example: This means you'll probably never get both True Blood and Heavenfire as pet specialities at the same time. And if you have True Blood as Main speciality you probably won't get more than 2 sub-specialities and so on.

For further example, some of the "sets"  I have seen are:
true blood/nether essence/nerves
nether essence/cyclone dust/ true blood
nerves/true blood/void essence
cyclone dust/heavenfire/nether essence/ thunder rush
thunder rush/cyclone dust/void essence/profundity
